Club Statement Issued
05/05/2021 - by Christian Carter
Kent Buccaneers Baseball Club issue this public statement following the recent social media post made by the British Baseball Federation (BBF), our National Governing Body for Baseball in which an inappropriate image was used to represent women baseball players.
The image in question has caused numerous female members of the British Baseball community to feel that they have been disrespected and insulted by the NGB. Players are beginning to refuse to play for the NGB until proper action is taken.
Kent Buccaneers stand with WB-UK (Women’s Baseball UK) and their views on the matter. We do not expect this behaviour from anyone within our community, let alone from those that hold positions within the NGB. We have been fortunate enough to have had women players within our organisation since the club was founded in 2017, and the incident is unacceptable and disrespectful to those that have put in endless hours of work for women’s baseball. What has happened is a step backwards in the development of our sport. As a result of this, we have made a formal complaint to the BBF, and we urge all clubs to do the same.
We all must stand together on behalf of the women’s baseball community.
